AOMPEB President

Osteopathic manual practitioner Marcus Martinez (from California, USA) has been chosen as the new president of the American Osteopathic Manual Practice Examining Board (AOMPEB), a subsidiary of the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners. Marcus has studied osteopathic manual practice at National Academy of Osteopathy. He has also studied massage therapy and chiropractic (at Life Chiropractic College West and Palmer Chiropractic College West) in California. He has also served as a nuclear machinist in the United States Navy. All osteopathic manual practitioners must successfully complete the board exams of AOMPEB if they wish to join the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners in order to become certified osteopathic manual practitioners (COMP).

The American Osteopathic manual practice Examining Board (AOMPEB) is the principal testing agency for the osteopathic manual practice profession in the United States of America. Established in 2018, the AOMPEB develops and administers standardized national written and practical examinations according to established guidelines. Among the benefits of the AOMPEB exams are: Promoting high standards of competence Enhancing professional credibility In providing standardized written and performance assessments for the osteopathic manual practice profession in US, the AOMPEB develops, administers, analyzes, scores, and reports results from various examinations. Rewrites

Candidates who fail to achieve a passing score will be required to re-take and pass the entire four parts examinations. Unsuccessful candidates are urged to obtain remedial training. Candidates with an unsuccessful status must reapply to AOMPEB for an exam date, as it will not be automatically rescheduled.

Exam Results

The American Osteopathic Manual Practice Examining Board exam results are emailed within four weeks of the board exam date.

Application Requirements

1) Completed application form. 2) The AOMPEB exam fee of $1,500 (US dollars). 3) A professional passport sized photo of the applicant; taken within the past 12 months. If mailed, the photo must have the printed name of the applicant on the back. 4) Official school transcripts, mailed directly from school to AOMPEB. Your application will be rejected if the photo does not meet our photo requirements: Photo must be a close-up of the head and shoulders so that the face covers a minimum of 25% of the photo. Photo must show a full front view of the face and top of the shoulders squared to the camera (the image of the face and shoulders must be centered in the photo). Photo must be taken against a plain white or light-coloured background so that the applicant’s features are clearly distinguishable against the background. There should be enough contrast between the background and the traits or clothing. Photo must be clear, sharp and in focus.

How to Apply for the Board Exam

Candidates are assigned to testing centres on a first-come, first-served basis. If space is full, candidates may be offered an alternate site based upon availability. The AOMPEB cannot accept payment of any kind over the phone or by email. All correspondence will be sent by email. You must add exams@AOMPEB.org to your contact list to ensure emails are not flagged as spam. Confirmation will be sent by the AOMPEB within four weeks of receipt of application or corr espondence. If you do not receive this confirmation within four weeks, please e-mail us. An application is considered deficient until all items (application, fees, photo and transcript requirement) have been received. Successful passing of the four parts AOMPEB board exams is one membership requirement of the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP). The Association is the copyright holder of the title of Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (COMP) awarded to AAOMP members.

Transcripts

Transcripts of an examinee’s most recent passing scores are released by the AOMPEB only upon written request. The AOMPEB recommends that examinees keep their original score reporting letters to maintain the history of their scores. There is no charge for the first transcript request processed by the AOMPEB. Subsequent transcript requests are $100 each. Please allow four weeks for processing of a transcript request. The four part Exams may only be taken after succ essful completion of an osteopathic manual practice program at an accredited school in US or other countries. Please note outside USA the profession of osteopathic manual practice is also known as osteopathy, manual osteopathy or European style osteopathy. For a list of UCOMPE accredited schools please check with the US Council on Osteopathic manual practice Education ( www.ucompe.org ).

AOMPEB Test Sites

The American Osteopathic manual practice Examining Board (AOMPEB) administers written and practical examination for osteopathic manual practitioners who have graduated from schools accredited by the US Council on Osteopathic Manual Practice Education ( www.ucompe.org ). The test sites are determined based upon applicant distribution and administrative considerations.

The AOMPEB nine hours of written and practical exams are designed to evaluate your competence for practicing osteopathic manual practice in the States. You will be tested on: Your understanding of terminology and vocabulary; Your understanding of facts, principles and generalization; Your understanding of illustrations; Your ability to recommend appropriate actions in some specific clinical situations as it relates to manual osteopathic care; Your ability to make appropriate clinical recommendations on the basis of information provided in a clinical situation.

AOMPEB Board Exam Information

The AOMPEB written & practical examinations are administered twice per year in March and October of each year across the United States. The exam venue is determined by the AOMPEB. Candidates are assigned to testing centres on a first-come, first-served basis. If space is full, candidates may be offered an alternate site based upon availability. Written examinations include Part 1 (basic science), Part 2 (clinical science), Part 3 (clinical skills, legislation & ethics), Part 4 (practical). Part 1 Includes subject examinations in each of three basic science areas: anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Each subject examination contains 110 standard multiple-choice questions and is allotted 90 minutes of testing time. Total testing time for Part 1 is 270 minutes. AOMPEB Purpose

The purpose of the American Osteopathic manual practice Examining Board (AOMPEB) is to establish and maintain uniform high standards of excellence in the osteopathic manual practice profession and education, primarily but not exclusively by preparing and administering to qualified applicants examinations of superior quality, whereby those legal agencies which govern the practice of osteopathic manual practice within United States of America may accept, at their discretion, those individuals who have successfully completed the examinations of AOMPEB, and by providing test and measurement services to the osteopathic manual practice profession in all areas of demonstrated need, and to advance the osteopathic manual practice profession when in the best interests of the corporation and osteopathic manual practice testing.
